Having never considered myself a STEM person, science topics often seemed too out of reach for me. In recent years, I’ve rekindled my love for astronomy, and thanks to the work of science educators and communicators, I’ve developed a lot more confidence in learning about the stars, our solar system, and current missions. This has led me to think: what can I do as a designer to help do that for someone else?
This is a conceptual exhibit design of a past mission, OSIRIS-REx, whose objective it was to retrieve a sample of the asteroid Bennu. This exhibit is designed to take place in the early stages of the mission to get the public excited about OSIRIS-REx and start following along with the 7-year-long mission.

I created a four-banner walkthrough of the mission with a trade show setting in mind. The banners take the visitor through an introduction to the asteroid, a rundown of the mission objectives, a tour of the instruments on board the spacecraft, and lastly, a projection of the sample return with some questions to mull over that the sample may answer. Next to this banner would be a table with mission timeline rack cards for visitors to take home. Since the mission is several years long, this card can be a reminder for visitors to check in with the mission and tune in to any live updates along the way.
